How we collect, use and protect your personal information.
This Privacy Policy explains how BOLT Music Tuition collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit our website or get in touch. BOLT Music Tuition is operated by Luke Tarrant (trading as Bolt Music Tuition), based in Marks Tey, Colchester. For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the data controller for your information.
We only collect what we need to respond to you and run our website. When you complete a contact or booking form or email us, we collect the details you provide - typically your name, email address, phone number and the content of your enquiry. When you browse the site, our analytics tools also collect standard technical information such as your approximate (city-level) location, device and browser type, the pages you view and how you found us. This automatic collection happens through cookies (see section 3 below).
We use your information to respond to your enquiries and arrange lessons or studio bookings (our lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, together with our legitimate interest in replying to you); to understand how the website is used so we can improve it (lawful basis: your consent, given through our cookie banner); and to keep the site secure and working properly (our legitimate interests). We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we never sell it.
Strictly necessary cookies keep the website working and remember your cookie choices - these do not require consent. We also use Google Analytics to measure how the site is used, such as visitor numbers, popular pages and where visitors come from. These analytics cookies are only set if you accept them via our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time. Some pages also include third-party content - such as our map and reviews, Instagram feed, embedded YouTube videos and the MyMusicStaff booking portal - which may set their own cookies.
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only with trusted providers that help us run our business, acting as our data processors: Webflow (website hosting), Google (website analytics and maps) and MyMusicStaff (lesson scheduling and booking), together with the email provider we use to receive and reply to your enquiries. We may also disclose information where we are required to do so by law.
Some of these providers, such as Google, may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards - such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement - to keep your information protected.
We keep enquiry and booking information only for as long as we need it to deal with your request and for our ordinary business records, after which it is securely deleted. Analytics information is retained in line with Google Analytics' standard retention settings.
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, request a copy in a portable format, and withdraw your consent (for example, for analytics cookies) at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@boltmusictuition.co.uk.
If you have a concern about how we handle your data, please contact us first and we will do our best to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised 'last updated' date.
For any questions about this policy or your personal information, contact Luke Tarrant at BOLT Music Tuition - hello@boltmusictuition.co.uk.
